The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) has notified the UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions of the case of the boy Malik Anas Da’oudiya, born in 2008, from Ma’aret al-Na’san village in northeastern rural Idlib governorate. Malik was killed on April 4, 2022, when Syrian regime artillery forces fired an anti-armor heat-guided missile at a group of elementary school pupils on their way to the village’s al-Amal School, in al-Shamali neighborhood of the village, killing four children, including Malik. The area was under the control of armed opposition factions and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) at the time of the incident.
As is the norm in all such cases, Syrian authorities have not confessed to killing Malik, while his family has been unable to submit any complaint about his death due to currently living in an area outside the Syrian regime’s control.
SNHR also stresses its grave concerns at the continuing killing of civilians in Syria that have been taking place since 2011, with the number of deaths constantly increasing.
